Barnstable Re-Discovered August 2017

Growing up on the south side of Cape Cod in Barnstable Town in Centerville village I never explored the north side around Barnstable village. This year we rented a beach house near the intersection of Commerce and Millway. Right near the Millway Marina where the Whale Watch boat goes out. The "Bayside" turned out to be fantastic. I ran each morning down Commerce and then along 6A then down Millway and Freezer Road back through the Marina ending at Millway Beach. Finishing a run by jumping into the ocean and then taking an outdoor shower are things you cannot do in Worcester where I have live now for 32 years. The vacation was fantastic with memories that will last forever. If you haven't visited Barnstable village along route 6A get up there. Barnstable Market, Smittys Ice Cream and Nirvana Coffee are special places. Two week earlier we stayed at Disney World which was also fantastic.

The winters in Worcester never seem to end. But you have to always remember no matter what is happening there are always better days ahead. The 14 days we had in Disney World and on the north side of my hometown of Barnstable with my family were those better days. As the summer winds down we will get to the Cape and hoepfully Nantucket a few more times again. But the summer of 2017 will always be special and I am glad I now am familiar with Barnstable village.

August 2015 Update

1. We spent a great vacation in Barnstable the last week of July 2015.
2. Current TV Shows that I am watching are True Detective, Ray Donovan, Hardknocks (Houston Texans), Catch A Contractor and Ballers. True Dectective had the finale episode last week. Overall I give the season a 6 out of 10 stars. It was great seeing Tim Riggins, Claire from Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn and Colin Ferrell aka Sonny from Miami Vice but the plot was too intricate and not well defined. Those characters drank more booze in the 8 episode run than my entire dorm at UMass did in one week. They would all be dead of liver disease if that was real liquor. Ray Donovan continues to deliver great entertainment in season 3 and there will be a season 4. I know his Highness Bill Simmons doesn't like it and he is the King of Boston but it is a good show. Hardknocks is spectacular and I have watched it every year to prepare for the NFL season. Ballers on HBO has been featuring two UMass grads in Rob Corddry and Victor Cruz. The Rock delivers as the star of the show and the NFL scenes are great. There will be a season 2 as well. Catch A Contractor features the multi talented Adam Carolla. His podcast is the best show on the internet. I never turn my car radio on anymore. I listen to Carolla's podcast, Simmons podcast (he is scheduled to come out of hibernation next month and surface at HBO), The Dave Dameshek Football Program and This Week With Larry Miller. Carolla will be doing Catch A Contractor in season 4 next year.
3. I haven't watched a complete MLB game this year. Truth be told I have watched more tennis and golf this year than baseball. The sport I follow most closely is Beach Volleyball. Qualification for the Olympics in Rio for 2016 starts this year so the competition has been intense. We haven't had an AVP tournament here in Massachusetts since 2009. I hope they come back to Boston or Cape Cod in 2016 like they did in the "old days" of the 1990s.
4. We spent a family vacation at Disney World in July as well. The vacation was like bowling a 300....perfect and it will never be surpassed. Tons of great memories that will last forever.
5. In the book department I just finished Daddy Stop Talking by Adam Carolla. Great book with lots of laughs. My efforts to read all of Hemingway's work continues now with The Nick Adams Stories.
6. DVR favorites for mindless viewing: Food Factory and Unwrapped.
7. Lets all have a great Fall full of watching football, tailgates and beer drinking on brisk fall afternoons. YOLO GO UMASS!
